Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for a Stepdown Unit. This role involves providing high-quality care to patients requiring intermediate care and those downgraded from the Cardiac Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The unit focuses on a variety of cardiac and vascular conditions, with significant support for procedures related to thoracic care, electrophysiology, cardiac catheterization, and structural heart programs.

Shift Information

• Shift: Night Shift
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Number of Beds: 18
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4; 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours
• Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Common Diagnoses:
  • Cardiac and vascular-related diagnoses
  • Cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs)
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • Atrial fibrillation (A fib RVR)

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience with cardiac and vascular patient populations
• Skills:
  • Ability to titrate medications including Amiodarone, Nitroprusside, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, and Cardizem
  • Proficiency in interpreting telemetry strips
• Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Team Structure

• Charge Nurse available on each shift with infrequent assignments
• Nurse Aide/Patient Care Tech ratio: 1:18
• Hospitalist and Intensivist in-house 24/7, with Cardiology on call after hours
• Respiratory Therapists available in-house 24/7

Orientation & Scheduling

• Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Floating Requirements: May float to same level and lower acuity units
• Scrub Color/Dress Code: Navy Blue
• Department Specific Orientation: Tailored orientation lasting 1-2 shifts

All nursing staff must adhere to a policy prohibiting artificial nails in patient care areas.
