Registered Nurse (RN) – Quality Management and Accreditation

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to oversee quality management and accreditation functions. This role encompasses risk management responsibilities and patient safety oversight, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The successful candidate will actively contribute to process improvements aimed at reducing healthcare errors and enhancing patient outcomes.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities

  • Maintain a comprehensive risk management program in alignment with state statutes.
  • Collaborate with leadership to make informed decisions regarding patient safety and risk management.
  • Investigate and report adverse incidents in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate the disclosure of adverse incidents, ensuring appropriate follow-up with patients and families.
  • Facilitate Patient Safety Rounds and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Provide risk management and patient safety education across departments.
  • Engage in ongoing educational and developmental opportunities as appropriate.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in clinical risk management.
  • Work collaboratively with Medical Directors and Corporate Counsel on quality of care issues.
  • Assist with accreditation and quality support activities, including chart audits and clinical reviews.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor, communicating effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including cross-coverage of Quality Management team roles.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

  • Active Registered Nursing license in Alaska.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) within two years.
  • Clinical competency assessment required within three months and every three years.

Experience Required

A minimum of three years of experience in monitoring risk management, patient safety, and quality regulatory requirements, along with demonstrated leadership skills in facilitating cross-functional teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of accreditation requirements for healthcare systems, including acute care and behavioral health.
  • Strong understanding of patient care principles and quality improvement practices.
  • Familiarity with medical peer review principles and standards of care.
  • Proficient in data analytics for the collection, analysis, and presentation of data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in medical chart reviews and data extraction.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position may require occasional travel, with a minimum of 20% expected. Employees may be required to lift and/or push up to 25 lbs, and the work environment may include both office and healthcare settings, with controlled temperature exposure. The normal routine involves limited exposure to blood and bodily fluids.

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality – National Association for Healthcare Quality
  • Clinical Competency Assessment – Organization
  • Registered Nurse License – State of Alaska

Shift Information

This is a full-time position with a day shift schedule. Holiday coverage is not required.
