Registered Nurse – Medical / Surgical

Job Description

We are seeking a Registered Nurse with expertise in Medical/Surgical care to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in stroke stepdown care and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Unit Information

Unit: Medical/Surgical Stroke Stepdown

Common Diagnoses: Stroke, altered mental status, renal issues, dialysis, COPD, CHF, isolation needs, general medical-surgical concerns, pneumonia, and pulmonary issues.

Patient Demographics: Adults

Number of Beds in the Unit: 64

Specialty Equipment Utilized: IV pumps, nasogastric (N/G) tubes, feeding tubes

Shift Details

Shift: Evening, 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM (Please note that block scheduling is not guaranteed)

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to medical/surgical stroke stepdown patients.
• Monitor patient conditions and administer medications as prescribed.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Assist in daily living activities and ensure patient comfort and safety.
• Participate in patient and family education regarding health management and recovery.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).

Qualifications

• Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical/Surgical nursing, with a focus on stroke stepdown care.
• Previous travel nursing experience is required.
• Certifications: Current AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) and NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification (NIHSS can be obtained prior to start).
• Familiarity with EPIC EMR system is preferred.

Additional Information

Floating to other units may be required based on the needs of the facility.

Scrub color for the unit is navy blue.
