Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our medical-surgical nursing team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population and contribute to the overall health and wellness of our community.

Unit Information

The Med/Surg units include:

  • 2 West: 13 beds
  • 6 West: 14 beds
  • 7 South: 12 beds
  • 4 Wiser: 30 beds
  • 5 Wiser: 25 beds

The nurse-to-patient ratio typically ranges from 1:5 to 1:6 but may be adjusted based on patient acuity.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with a variety of diagnoses, including but not limited to congestive heart failure, diabetes, post-surgical care, trauma, acute kidney injury, sickle cell anemia, and respiratory illnesses.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Manage and monitor infusions, including titrating heparin and potentially starting amiodarone under supervision.
  • Utilize telemetry systems; every patient is to be monitored with real-time central monitoring communication.
  • Float between various medical-surgical units according to skill set, providing high-level care to higher acuity patients as required.

Qualifications

  • Current RN licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred for charge nurses.
  • Experience in a Level 1 trauma center or large facility with significant surgical volume preferred.
  • Proficiency in managing lines and chest tubes is essential.
  • Flu vaccine is required, with only medical exemptions allowed upon documentation.

Work Schedule

Shifts are 12 hours long (7a-7p or 7p-7a). Self-scheduling is encouraged, but management will attempt to accommodate individual preferences based on departmental needs. Staff typically works every other weekend with holiday rotas as needed.

Orientation and Training

New hires will participate in a comprehensive orientation on the first day, which includes paperwork, logins for Omnicell and Epic, and unit tours. Additional training will consist of two shifts with a preceptor to ensure a smooth transition into the unit.
