Med Surg Float Pool Nurse

Position Overview

The Med Surg Float Pool Nurse provides comprehensive patient care across multiple medical-surgical units, quickly adapting to varying patient populations and unit workflows. Nurses are expected to work independently, demonstrate strong clinical judgment, and uphold all institutional policies and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality patient care across all inpatient medical-surgical units.
  • Adapt swiftly to different units and patient care needs.
  • Participate in orientation at the main facility upon start date and complete additional orientation at other units as required.
  • Maintain compliance with all institutional policies, including attendance, documentation standards, and medication safety protocols.

Float Units Covered

The nurse will cover all inpatient medical-surgical units across various locations, which include nine med surg units and five step down units, as well as emergency departments for med surg holds.

Work Schedule

  • Weekend work is required every other weekend.
  • Nurses are expected to work surrounding days during 1-2 holidays within their contract period.
  • Remote work expectations are a maximum of 5 days, with the possibility of extending contracts as needed.

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

The standard nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on medical-surgical units, which may vary based on unit acuity and staffing levels.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2 years of Med Surg nursing experience is required; no new graduates will be considered.
  • Certifications required include BLS and NIHSS, with ACLS and TNCC preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in EPIC is necessary.

Additional Information

Nurses must feel comfortable floating between various units and should demonstrate flexibility in adapting to different work environments.
