Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. This position is focused on providing high-quality patient care in a post-surgical unit specializing in abdominal and colorectal surgeries.

Unit Information

• Unit/Department: 7 South – Post-Surgical: Abdominal/Colorectal
• Bed Capacity: 32 beds
• Patient Population: Colorectal surgery, abdominal surgeries (colectomy, bowel resection, ostomy, hernia repair), urological procedures (TURP, kidney stones, prostatectomy), orthopedic surgery (hip fractures, ankle fractures, amputations), plastic surgery (debridements), specialty wound care & surgical drains.
• Staffing Ratios: 1:6
• Scrub Color: Navy

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and support in a post-surgical environment.
• Monitor and assess patient conditions, implementing appropriate interventions.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered.
• Educate patients and families on discharge planning and post-operative care.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.

Requirements

• Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Licensure: Kansas or Multistate Registered Nurse License with no hits.
• Certifications: AHA BLS certification required at the time of submission.
• Experience: Minimum of 1-year Medical Surgical experience required; Progressive care/step-down experience is a plus.
• Charting System: Familiarity with Epic is preferred (testing out option available).

Additional Information

• Contract Length: 26 weeks, with a preference for longer contracts.
• Shift: 12-hour shifts, with a minimum guarantee of 36 hours/week.
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend.
• Holiday Policy: One holiday off may be requested by healthcare providers.
• Float Requirements: May be required to float to other post-surgical and medical-surgical inpatient floors.

Immunization Requirements

• Proof of immunity or vaccination for Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella.
• TDaP vaccine, Influenza vaccine, or exemption request during flu season.
• Documentation of Tuberculosis (TB) status.
