Unit Overview
This is a 28-bed unit that provides care for patients following various surgical procedures, including bariatric reduction and urology. The unit also addresses infectious processes such as cellulitis, abscesses, and ulcers that necessitate surgical intervention. Additionally, it manages conditions like osteomyelitis, gastrointestinal diseases, and offers post-operative care for procedures such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and amputations.
Position Details
- Start Dates: Orientation begins on the following dates: 10/19/2026, 11/02/2026, 11/16/2026, 11/30/2026. Flexibility in start dates may be required based on current class sizes.
- Contract Length: Positions are available for 26 weeks, with a preference for contracts ranging from 26 to 51 weeks. Shorter contracts may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Shift Details: 12-hour shifts with a guaranteed 36 hours per week and every other weekend rotation.
- Holiday Policy: One holiday off may be requested annually, with additional holidays considered based on the staffing needs.
- Floating Requirements: Travelers may be required to float to other post-surgical and medical-surgical inpatient floors as needed.
Qualifications
- Certifications: Current AHA BLS certification is required at the time of submission.
- Licensure: Must possess a valid Kansas or Multistate RN license; no history of hits allowed.
- Education: An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
- Experience: A minimum of one year of Medical Surgical nursing experience is required. Experience in progressive care or step-down units is considered a plus.
- Charting System: Familiarity with Epic is preferred; a testing option is available for candidates.

- Staffing Ratios: Standard nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6.
- Scrub Color: Navy blue is the designated color for scrubs.
- Tattoo and Piercing Policy: Visible tattoos are permitted if they are not offensive or inappropriate. Piercings must maintain a professional appearance and not interfere with job duties.
- Vaccination Requirements: Documentation of immunity status for Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella, or proof of vaccination is needed. Seasonal influenza vaccine and TDaP vaccination documentation may be required.
