Histology Technologist

Job Summary

The Histology Technologist is responsible for the preparation of histologic and cytologic materials, as well as performing routine and special stains. Key duties include cataloging, storage, and proper disposal of tissues, blocks, and slides, along with record-keeping activities such as temperature charts and workload statistics. This role also involves performing maintenance, problem-solving, and assisting pathologists in establishing and documenting new procedures for special techniques.

Responsibilities

• Prepare histologic and cytologic materials for examination.
• Perform routine and special staining techniques.
• Catalog and store tissues, blocks, and slides following proper disposal methods.
• Maintain accurate records including temperature charts and workload statistics.
• Assist pathologists and supervisors with the implementation of new procedures.
• Participate in in-service training and documentation of quality assurance.

Qualifications

• Required Certifications: BLS (AHA), Certified Histotechnician (HT) via ASCP.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in histology.

Work Schedule

This position offers a full-time schedule of Monday to Friday with 8-hour shifts. The candidate may be required to float and work every other weekend.
