Registered Nurse (RN) – Inpatient Rehabilitation

Unit Highlights

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit specializes in providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to patients recovering from various conditions.

General Information

• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirements: Rotating weekends

Unit Specifics

• Number of Beds: 18
• Patient Ratios: 5-6 patients per RN
• Staffing Description: RNs and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Floating Policy: As needed to medical-surgical units

Qualifications and Skills

Required Skills:

• Willingness to learn specialty patient mobilization skills.
• Ability to learn and complete rehabilitation-specific documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to receive coaching in rehabilitation practices.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with neurological, cardiac, and orthopedic adult populations.
• Previous inpatient rehabilitation or long-term acute care nursing experience.

Certifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Procedures Performed on the Unit

• Indwelling and straight urinary catheterization
• Peripheral IV insertions
• Blood administration
• Central line dressing changes
• Wound dressing changes as ordered
• Surgical drain removal
• Suture/staple removal

Experience Requirements

Two years of recent experience in an inpatient hospital setting is preferred, including medical-surgical, stepdown critical care, or inpatient rehabilitation nursing. Experience in neurological, cardiac, and orthopedic nursing is a plus.

Dress Code

• Scrub Color: Royal Blue tops and pants in good condition.
• Nail Policy: Clean and healthy; no artificial nails, gel, or similar treatments.
• Hair: Must be neat and clean, avoiding extreme styles or colors.
• Facial Hair: Mustaches, beards, and sideburns should be neatly trimmed.
• Tattoos: Should be covered whenever possible; all body art will be assessed individually.
• Piercings: Visible piercings other than ear piercings are prohibited.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Compliance with facility-issued PPE requirements, including N95 masks and face shields.
