Registered Nurse (RN) – Senior Psychiatric

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in psychiatric care to join our team in Kansas City, MO. The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to patients with a range of mental health issues across various units.

Unit Specifics

  • Number of Beds:
    • Adolescent Unit: 18
    • Serenity Unit: 24
    • Intensive Treatment Unit: 32
    • Senior Adult Unit: 16
    • VINE Unit: 9
  • Patient Ratios: Nurses 8:1, Mental Health Technicians 12:1
  • Documentation System: Meditech
  • Floating Policy: Staff may float to the unit with the greatest need.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ mental health status, including identifying signs of psychiatric disorders and substance use.
  • Develop individualized care plans that meet the specific needs of patients with mental health and behavioral issues.
  • Administer psychiatric medications while monitoring for side effects and adverse reactions.
  • Provide immediate support to patients in crisis, employing de-escalation techniques and appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Build trust and rapport with patients through effective communication and active listening skills.
  • Monitor patients for both physical and psychological symptoms, including vital signs and changes in mental status.

Qualifications

  • Active Blue Card CPI certification required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
  • Experience in psychiatric nursing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide therapeutic communication and manage crisis situations effectively.

Shift Requirements

Candidates must be available for three 12-hour shifts per day, including weekends. Days off will not be guaranteed unless specified in the contract.

Dress Code

Staff are expected to wear appropriate uniforms: nurses should wear blue, while Mental Health Technicians should wear green or black.
