Surgical Services Registered Nurse (RN)

The Surgical Services Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing comprehensive care during the pre-operative and phase 2 post-operative phases for surgical patients. This role includes crucial tasks such as verifying patient consents, conducting assessments, and reviewing medications. In addition, the RN will support the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient consents for surgical procedures.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of surgical patients.
  • Review patient medication histories and implications for surgery.
  • Provide phase 2 post-operative care for patients.
  • Support the PACU team during on-call shifts.

Shift Details:

The position requires the ability to work 8-hour shifts with the following schedule options:

  • 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
  • 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM

Call Requirements:

  • 5 calls within a 6-week scheduling period.
  • Weekday call from 8:00 AM – 8:00 AM (8-hour response time).
  • Weekend call is 24 hours, from 8:00 AM – 8:00 AM.

Weekend and Holiday Requirements:

Weekend call is required, including 24-hour availability on weekends. Holiday work is also expected.

Patient Care Details:

The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, with the unit capacity of 11 bays. The unit typically manages between 20-35 surgical cases.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: 5 years of nursing experience, specifically in perioperative and post-anesthesia recovery.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Proficient in IV insertion and the use of EPIC Optime software.
  • Experience with bladder scanners, EKG machines, glucometers, and pneumatic devices.

The ideal candidate will possess strong perioperative experience, particularly in pre-op and phase 2 recovery, and will be prepared to deliver high-quality surgical nursing care.
