Registered Nurse (RN) – Mother-Baby/Postpartum

General Information

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year of mother-baby/postpartum experience, along with at least 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.

Patient Types

  • Postpartum
  • Low-risk antepartum

Patient Ratios

1:3-4 for antepartum or couplets.

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) preferred

Skills Required

  • Breastfeeding assistance
  • Newborn care, including vital signs, thermoregulation, managing hypoglycemia, bilirubin levels, and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) babies
  • Newborn lab and phlebotomy skills, IV skills in adults preferred
  • Experience with PKU testing
  • Ability to independently care for 3-4 couplets and provide discharge teaching
  • Vaccination of neonates and conducting thorough assessments and reassessments for both mothers and babies
  • Fundal checks on postpartum patients

Support on the Unit

  • Receptionist/Health Unit Coordinator: 7 days per week, evening coverage until 1:00 AM 4 days per week
  • Charge nurse: Yes, with lower patient ratios
  • Lactation nurses available from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, 7 days per week
  • Phlebotomy services available
  • Clinical Nursing Assistant Nurse Managers: 2 on days and 2 on nights (typically in charge role)
  • Respiratory Therapy: 24/7 availability
  • Hospitalist/OB: In-house 24/7
  • Anesthesia: In-house 24/7

Technology/Equipment

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR): EPIC preferred
  • IV pumps: Alaris
  • Medication dispensing: Pyxis

Orientation

Orientation includes 3 shifts with preceptors; for night shift orientation, 1 shift on days and 2 shifts on nights.

Scheduling

  • Weekend rotation: Yes, every other or every third weekend
  • Holiday expectations: No blackout dates; holiday requirement is at least one winter holiday and one summer holiday
  • RTO: Up to 7 days
  • Shift times: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Schedule cycle: 6 weeks, with the holiday schedule set for 12 weeks in advance
