Pediatric Cardiac ICU Registered Nurse (PCICU RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Cardiac ICU Registered Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 2 years experience in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), with at least 1 year in a Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU).

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical care for mixed PICU/PCICU patients, predominantly focusing on cardiovascular and thoracic cases.
  • Administer care for patients with congenital heart defects, post-operative cases, and other complex conditions.
  • Utilize aseptic and sterile techniques during patient care, including dressing changes and management of central lines.
  • Oversee ventilator management, tracheostomy care, and other respiratory interventions.
  • Assist with the management of G/GJ/J-tubes, NG tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, and PCA pumps.
  • Perform patient discharges and facilitate a smooth transition for patients and their families.
  • Engage in critical thinking and effective time management to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with ECMO specialists for patients requiring ECMO treatment.
  • Provide care for patients undergoing continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) if prior experience is available.
  • Float to MedSurg, ED, or NICU as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a PICU, with at least 1 year in a PCICU.
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required.
  • Experience with cardiac patients, surgeries, and related diagnoses.
  • Proficiency in management of various patient types, including neuro, surgical, and respiratory cases.
  • Preferred experience with ECMO and peritoneal dialysis, but not required.
  • Excellent soft skills: quick learner, critical thinker, and engaged team player.

Work Environment

This position is predominantly focused on providing care for PCICU patients, with a mixture of general PICU patient care. The average census is approximately 10-11 patients per day in a facility that features a total of 152 beds and 22 PICU beds.

Additional Information

  • Use of EPIC electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.
  • Weekend rotation is required every other weekend unless additional requests are made.
  • Shift times are from 07:00 to 19:30 and 19:00 to 07:30.
  • Scrub color is any solid professional color without graphics or logos.
