Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PICU RN)

Job Description

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) seeks a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team. This position involves providing specialized care to critically ill pediatric patients, ensuring a high standard of medical attention and emotional support for both patients and their families.

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 16
• Staffing: Approximately 35 staff members
• Patient Ratios:
  • 1-2:1 for PICU patients
  • 3:1 for Intermediate Care (IMC) patients
  • 4:1 for general care
• Night Shift Staff: 1 Charge RN, 2-6 RNs

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Minimum of 1 year of recent, hands-on experience in pediatric critical care.
• Proficiency in pediatric mechanical ventilation, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), nasal CPAP, and tracheostomy management.
• Experience with managing arterial and central lines, including titrating vasoactive, paralytic, and sedative infusions.
• Strong competency in weight-based pharmacology and age-specific assessments for patients ranging from neonates to young adults.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in precepting novice and new graduate nurses.

Typical Procedures

• Management of advanced respiratory interventions and continuous organ-support therapies.
• Assistance in intubations, central line management, hypodynamic monitoring, and moderate sedation for pediatric procedures.
• Titration of complex drip and continuous infusions.

Work Schedule

• Rotating weekends
• Expected to work 4 weekend shifts per month
