Registered Nurse – Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Position Overview

Join a dedicated team in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) that strives for excellence in patient care. We are looking for an experienced registered nurse to provide high-quality care to critically ill pediatric patients.

Unit Information

  • Location: Asheville, NC
  • Number of Beds: 9
  • Patient Ratios: PICU 1 RN to 1-2 patients; Stepdown: 1 RN to 2-3 patients
  • Staffing Support: Unit secretaries and tech availability; HUC works 9 AM to 9 PM, with shared tech support
  • Documentation System: Cerner
  • Scheduling Requirements: Must work 3 weekends in a 6-week schedule
  • Floating Policy: Will float to Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Patient Experience Requirements: Minimum of 1 year PICU experience

Qualifications

  • Required Certification: PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Advanced Skills: Not applicable

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform IV starts and central line dressing changes
  • Assist in various procedures including catheterizations and lumbar punctures
  • Conduct hemodynamic monitoring and manage ventilators
  • Provide trach care and tube feeding placement
  • Monitor intracranial pressure (ICP)
