Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

This position is for a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within a Level II Trauma center. The unit has a total of 15 beds and a dedicated team of 38 staff members, including Intensivists, Registered Nurses, Desk Technicians, Respiratory Therapists, and Case Management on the day shift. Night shift support consists of Intensivists, Registered Nurses, and Respiratory Therapists.

Job Responsibilities

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit focuses on delivering high-quality patient care for critically ill pediatric patients. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring patient vitals and providing continuous care.
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Performing procedures such as IV starts and blood draws.
  • Educating and supporting family members regarding patient care.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of current acute care hospital experience in PICU.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).
  • Membership in the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON).
  • Experience in a pediatric teaching hospital setting.
