Pediatric Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

This unit specializes in Pediatrics and Oncology and includes a total of 19 beds: 13 pediatric beds and 6 dedicated to oncology care. The nursing team consists of 22 staff members, divided into 10 for pediatrics and 12 for oncology.

Staffing Details

• Day Shift: 4 RNs, 1 Charge RN, 1 Respiratory Therapist (RT), 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT)
• Night Shift: 4 RNs, 1 Charge RN, 1 RT, 1 PCT

Patient Ratios

The typical patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5.

Equipment and Technology

Primary equipment utilized includes Alaris pumps, and the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system is Cerner.

Qualifications and Skills

Applicants must possess the following qualifications:

• Required: Pediatric experience in a hospital setting
• Preferred: Pediatric Oncology experience

Certifications

Required certifications include:

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Oncology nurses must also have the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON) certification.

Floating Areas

Staff may be required to float to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as needed.

Dress Code

The standard attire for this unit includes navy blue scrubs or a white top.

Work Schedule

Staff members will be expected to work 6 weekend shifts per month, including at least 2 Saturdays.
