Unit Information

• Unit Type: Surgical PCU
• Number of Beds: 32
• Staffing:
  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 2-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), 7-8 RNs
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 2-3 PCTs, 7 RNs
• Patient Ratios: 1:4, up to 1:5
• Equipment: Walkers, kangaroo pumps, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), chest tubes, ostomies, PEG tubes, NG tubes, Foley catheters
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Job Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients in the Surgical PCU unit.
• Perform and assist with various procedures, including tracheostomy care, bowel resections, chest tube placements, and mastectomies.
• Administer medications and manage intravenous therapies, including Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and tube feeds.
• Monitor telemetry and assist with routine patient care, including hygiene and oral care.
• Maintain effective communication with patients and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality care.
• Complete admission and shift documentation in compliance with protocols.

Qualifications

• Required Certifications:
  • BLS
  • ACLS/ALS
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
• Strong time management and critical thinking skills.
• Preferred experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and tracheostomy procedures.

Additional Information

• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs.
• Scheduling: Rotating weekends with shifts starting at 0645 and 1845.
• Floating Areas: May include Medsurg, Medsurg PCU, and ED holds.
• Focus on infection prevention and patient safety protocols.
