Registered Nurse (RN)

General Information

Beds: 56

• Minimum Experience Required: 1 year for PCU RN and Tele RN.
• Previous permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler.
• Travelers must reside at least 100 miles away from any facility.

• CHF

• Hepatitis
• ESLD
• DM
• DKA
• Pneumonia
• Sepsis
• GI Bleed
• Syncope
• Chest Pain
• Pulmonary Emboli
• Respiratory Failure
• COPD
• Arrhythmias
• Seizure Disorders
• Overdose
• Delirium Tremors

Patient Ratios

• RN:
  • PCU/Tele – 1:4 (Days & Nights)
  • Med/Surg – 1:5 (Days & Nights)
• CNA: 1:8 (Days & Nights)

Required Certifications

• RN: BLS, ACLS
• LPN: BLS required; ACLS preferred
• CNA: Certified CNA; BLS not required

Required Education

Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) designation preferred.

Skills Required

• For PCU RN:
  • Cardiac and vasoactive drip titration
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • IV starts
  • Blood product administration
  • CIWA, drain/tube management
  • Catheter insertion/management
  • Insulin drips (both DKA and non-DKA)
  • Continuous bladder irrigation
  • Chest tube maintenance
  • Effective communication, strong clinical judgement, professional bedside manner, and teamwork
• For Tele RN:
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • IV starts
  • Blood product administration
  • CIWA, drain/tube management
  • Catheter insertion/management
  • Insulin drips (non-DKA only)
  • Continuous bladder irrigation
  • Chest tube maintenance
  • Effective communication, strong clinical judgement, professional bedside manner, and teamwork

Support on the Unit

• CNA (Ratio: 1:8 for both Days & Nights)
• Charge Nurse: Yes – 2 for the unit (free-floating), available 24/7
• Phlebotomy: Yes, 24/7 for peripheral blood draws only
• IV/VAT Team: No
• Resource Nurse: Yes, as staffing allows
• Respiratory Therapy: Yes, available 24/7
• Hospitalist: Yes, available 24/7 in-house
• Centralized Tele Monitoring: 24/7 support for Tele reading and alarm notifications
• Violent Incident Response Team
