PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

This position is within a 45-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a dedicated team of around 90 staff members. The unit operates effectively during both day and night shifts, ensuring comprehensive patient care.

Staffing Structure

• Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 9-10 RNs, 4-5 Medication Sitter Technicians (MSTs)
• Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 9-10 RNs, 4-5 MSTs

Patient Ratios

The nursing staff maintains a safe and efficient patient ratio of 4-5 patients per nurse during both day and night shifts.

Required Equipment and Technology

• Patient lifts
• Dynamap monitors
• Cardiac monitoring equipment
• EMR system: Meditech

Qualifications

Skill Set Required:

• Minimum of 1 year of current acute care hospital experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in cardiac care and ICU
• Familiarity with Meditech EMR

Typical Procedures

Nurses in this unit perform a variety of clinical procedures, including but not limited to:

• Administration of cardiac drips
• Management of cardiac catheters
• Chest tube management
• Wound care
• TPN and lipid administration
