General Information
This opportunity offers a diverse and dynamic environment for Registered Nurses. The facility includes 24 Pre-Op/Phase 2 beds and 19 PACU beds, accommodating a wide range of patient needs.
Patient Types
- Infants to geriatric patient populations
- Endoscopy patients (prep and discharge only, no intra-operative work)
- Ambulatory/Elective, Acute care, and Trauma patients
Patient Ratios
- Pre-Op: 1:2-3
- PACU: 1:1 or 1:2
- Phase 2: 1:2-4
Ratios may vary based on patient acuity levels and specific medical requirements.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Education
Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing. Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required in South Dakota.
Required Skills
- Night shift RN: Must have critical care experience, including competencies with ICU cases, hemodynamic drips, and ventilated patients.
- Comfortability with preoperative, recovery, and discharge processes.
- Ability to manage boarded patients if inpatient beds are unavailable.
- Variable shift RN: Initial competencies include IV insertion, ventilator training, initiation of blood product transfusions, and administration and monitoring of moderate sedation.
Support on the Unit
- 6 Nurse Aides available during daytime hours
- Charge Nurses overseeing Pre-Op and PACU
- Resource Nurses available for support
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) team on-site as needed
- Hospitalists available for inpatient population management
- Anesthesia/CRNA support provided
Charting System/Equipment
- EPIC (notify if traveler does not have experience)
- Omnicell for medication management
Orientation
Includes general facility orientation followed by one week of orientation that encompasses all departments (Pre-Op, PACU, Phase II, and Endoscopy).
Scheduling
Shifts/hours will depend on specific job postings within the following formats:
- Days/Variable: 3 shifts of 12 hours per week
- Nights: 4 shifts of 10 hours per week (3 consecutive nights)
Weekend rotations may apply, along with responsibilities for on-call duty, typically scheduled every 3-5 weeks.
Holiday Expectations
Holidays are rotated among staff, with expectations for working two holidays annually.
