Job Description:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for independently administering a variety of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and injections (chemo, hormonal, and non-chemo/hormonal) in accordance with the provider’s order. This includes accessing port-a-caths, PICCs, and Hickman catheters, performing venipuncture, PICC and Hickman dressings, labs via ports, PICCs and Hickman catheters. The nurse maintains accurate, concise, and complete records on the patient’s condition, treatment, medications, and responses to treatment and monitors all intravenous therapies and responses. Notifies the Medical Oncologist or Nurse Practitioner of unusual occurrences and initiates appropriate emergency action when necessary. Provides education to patients, families, and caregivers and is responsible for verifying informed consent prior to administering chemotherapy.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer a variety of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy.

  • Perform venipuncture, PICC and Hickman dressings, and labs via ports, PICCs, and catheters.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient’s condition and treatment.
  • Notify the Medical Oncologist or Nurse Practitioner of unusual occurrences.
  • Provide patient and caregiver education.
  • Verify informed consent prior to chemotherapy administration.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of handling hazardous drugs and usage of PPE.
  • Maintain a safe environment and comply with policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Epic EMR.
  • Knowledge of proper handling, administration, and disposal of hazardous drugs.
