Registered Nurse (RN) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proficient Registered Nurse to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional care to critically ill infants and will demonstrate strong clinical skills, particularly in neonatal nursing.

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 6 (5 open bays, 1 isolation room)
• Patient Ratios: 1:2-3
• Staffing: RN and Respiratory Therapist (RT)
• Equipment: GE 650 monitors, Medela breast pumps, syringe pumps, IV pumps, bili-lights
• Documentation System: Meditech, Centricity Perinatal
• Scheduling Requirements: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
• Floating Policy: Birth Response/Stork Nurse
• Patient Experience Requirements: AIDET, courtesy, and respect

Responsibilities

• Provide care for and stabilize critically ill infants needing various levels of respiratory support, including ventilation and CPAP.
• Perform procedures such as intubation, umbilical line placement, surfactant administration, and needle decompression.
• Administer total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and lipids.
• Conduct newborn resuscitation and support breastfeeding initiatives.
• Exercise strong assessment skills and recognize symptoms of declining health in preterm infants.
• Document care and patient responses accurately and timely.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a NICU setting.
• Certifications: Current RN licensure, BLS, and NRP required.
• Skills: Proficiency in IV insertion in preterm and term infants and the ability to work independently.
• Communication: Exceptional communication skills required, with a focus on collaboration with neonatologists and the care team.

Dress Code

Hospital-provided scrubs will be supplied; personnel are to change on arrival and departure.

Schedule and Shift Requirements

• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
• Ready for team huddles at 6:45 AM/PM.
