Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Neuro

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team in the Med/Surg Neuro department. This role involves providing high-quality care to patients with various neurological conditions, including acute and subacute stroke patients, as well as those with behavioral health histories.

Contract Length

Initial contract period is 26 weeks, with opportunities for extension up to 51 weeks based on performance and facility needs.

Shift Details

  • 12-hour shifts
  • 36 hours guaranteed per week
  • Every other weekend rotation

Orientation Dates

Orientation will occur bi-weekly. Candidates may submit for one of the following orientation dates:

  • 10/05/2026
  • 10/19/2026
  • 11/02/2026
  • 11/16/2026
  • 11/30/2026

Flexibility in the start date is appreciated as adjustments may be made based on classroom capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to medical/surgical patients, focusing on neurological conditions.
  • Monitor patient status and implement care plans effectively, ensuring high standards of patient care.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes and deliver cohesive care.
  • Manage medication administration and document care accurately in the Epic charting system.

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in Kansas or a multistate license.
  • Minimum of 1 year of acute care medical/surgical nursing experience required.
  • ADN or BSN degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • AHA BLS certification is required; CPI and NIHSS certifications are a plus.
  • No first-time travelers will be considered.
  • Local travelers are welcomed at the same rate; there is no radius rule.

Float Requirements

Candidates should be prepared to float to other post-surgical and medical-surgical inpatient floors as needed.

Patient Care Environment

This 31-bed unit specializes in caring for patients undergoing treatment for stroke, transient ischemic attacks, and medically unstable psychiatric illnesses, ensuring comprehensive support for both neurological and general medical needs.

Vaccination Requirements

Immunization documentation is required, including:

  • Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella (verified through titer or vaccination records)
  • TDaP and Influenza vaccines or an exemption request during flu season.
  • TB documentation.

Jewelry and Body Adornment Policy

Visible tattoos are permitted, provided they are not offensive or inappropriate. Piercings are acceptable as long as they do not interfere with job duties.
