Unit Information

• Unit: MedSurg 6B
• Number of Beds: 46
• Certifications Required: BLS; Chemotherapy certification preferred

Patient Care and Responsibilities

• Patient Ratios: 5:1
• Floating to other units including MedSurg 5, Telemetry 7 (when skills allow), and Rehab
• Charge Nurse duties available, with no patient assignment
• Nurse Aide support provided with a ratio of 1:12 during days and 1:14 during nights
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Pneumonia, COPD, Diabetes, ESRD, Cellulitis, GI Issues, Trauma-related neuro issues, Gunshot wounds, and Stab wounds
• Common Treatments: Administration of Heparin and Blood products; potential for Bipap and CPAP at night
• Daily interaction with Hospitalist or Intensivist on staff
• Emergency Medical Records (EMR) system in use: Cerner
• Availability to work on major holidays is required, with a rotational schedule alongside core staff

Work Schedule

• Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Orientation and Training

• Floor-specific orientation with a preceptor is provided for 1 shift

Additional Information

• Must be capable of reading strips when floated to Med/Tele Floor
• Minimum request time off (RTO) is expected
