Registered Nurse (RN)

Facility Overview

Located in City, State, this facility is a 492-bed, Level II Trauma Center equipped with a Level III NICU and designated as a Primary Stroke Center. First-time travelers are welcome, provided that they have a minimum of 18 months of MedSurg experience along with EPIC or Cerner training. Please note that staff must be gone for a minimum of 6 months before returning as travelers.

Unit Information

6 North Trauma Surgical

• Beds: 23
• Patient Types: General Surgery and Vascular surgeries
• Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Skills Required: Trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation.

5 South Neuroscience

• Beds: 33
• Patient Types: CVA, TBI, Seizure, AMS, Spinal Fusion, Craniotomy, Degenerative Diseases, post trauma, angiogram
• Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Skills Required: IV start, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, Colostomy/Ostomy, Wound Care, Chest tube, Surgical Site Care, C-Collar, Abdominal Binders, Restraints.

5 North MedSurg/Oncology

• Beds: 39
• Patient Types: Palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, and various medical/surgical oncology patients.
• Patient Ratios: 1:6 for RN and LPNs
• Skills Required: Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foley, IV starts; Chemotherapy administration if certified.

4 South Clinical Decision Unit

• Beds: 18
• Patient Types: General MedSurg, including COPD, CHF, Diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-Diff, COVID, Pneumonia, Renal Failure, Sepsis, UTI, End of Life Comfort.
• Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Skills Required: Strong assessment, prioritization, communication and documentation skills.

3 South Orthopedics

• Beds: 20
• Patient Types: Orthopedic and spine surgeries including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, laminectomies.
• Patient Ratios: 1:5; 1:6 if MedSurg
• Skills Required: PCA pumps, negative pressure wound dressings, dressing changes, foley, drains.

3 North MS/Ortho/Urology

• Beds: 23
• Patient Types: Urology, ENT, ortho, MedSurg.
• Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Skills Required: Trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, adherence to nurse-driven foley protocols.

Required Certifications

• BLS
• NIHSS

Unit Support

• CNA support with a 1:6 ratio for vital signs, ADLs, and glucose checks
• Receptionist/HUC on duty
• Charge nurse available but rarely takes an assignment
• Phlebotomy support
