Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Post-Surgical department. This unit specializes in the care of patients recovering from urologic and bariatric surgeries. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care, collaborating with a team of healthcare professionals, and engaging in continuous improvement initiatives.
Unit Information
- Department: 6 South – Post-Surgical (Urology, Bariatric Surgery)
- Bed Count: 28 beds
- Patient Population: Post-operative bariatric reduction, urologic/nephrology surgeries/procedures, and related conditions.
- Staffing Ratios: 1:6
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care to post-surgical patients, including monitoring vital signs and managing pain.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the medical team.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care and recovery.
- Utilize electronic health record systems for patient documentation and care coordination.
Contract Details
- Orientation Dates: Orientation is available on 10/19/2026, 11/02/2026, 11/16/2026, and 11/30/2026. Flexibility on orientation start dates may be required based on class sizes.
- Contract Length: Preferred length is 26-51 weeks, with 13-week contracts considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts with 36 hours guaranteed per week.
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend.
- Float Requirements: May be required to float to other post-surgical and medical-surgical inpatient floors.
Qualifications
- Education: ADN or BSN required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience required; progressive care/step-down experience is preferred.
- Certifications: AHA BLS certification required at time of submission; all required certifications and licensure must be provided.
- License: Kansas or multistate nursing license required; no hits on record allowed.
Vaccination Requirements
Immunization status for Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella (via titer or vaccination proof) is necessary. Documentation of TDaP and influenza vaccination, or exemption request during flu season, is also required along with tuberculosis documentation.
