Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor and Delivery

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a Labor and Delivery unit. The ideal candidate will possess charge experience and be skilled in labor and delivery procedures.

General Information

  • Number of Beds: 9 LDRP, 1 OBED, 4 NICU, 1 OR suite
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 for active labors, inductions, C-sections; couplet care 1:3; newborns 1:1 until stable; NICU 1:3 intermediate care
  • Unit Staffing: No unit secretaries or techs available
  • Type of Equipment: CPN Central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, tele-med robot for neonatologist, bili-blankets, PCA pumps
  • Documentation System: Meditech and CPN
  • Scheduling Requirements: Full-time positions require 3 shifts per week, with rotating weekends and holidays
  • Floating Policy: Staff may be required to float within the facility as needed; some are cross-trained to float between LDRP and NICU
  • Patient Experience Requirements: Daily rounding on all patients; safety rounding

Hiring Profile

  • Must Have: Labor and delivery experience, including the ability to labor and recover the mother and receive and transition the newborn.
  • Preferred Skills: Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other potential obstetric emergencies.
  • Advanced Skills Needed: Proficient in fetal monitoring, inducing labor using Pitocin and Cervidil.
  • Procedures Performed: C-sections, circumcisions, intra-uterine monitoring, vacuum or forceps-assisted deliveries.
  • Certifications Required: BLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring training.

Dress Code

Uniform: Pink and/or brown scrubs are required in accordance with the infant security policy for the unit.

  • The unit consists of a highly experienced team with several RNs boasting approximately 30 years of experience each, serving as valuable resources and preceptors for less experienced staff.
  • There are multiple nurses with 7-10 years of experience who contribute to a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • This LDRP unit offers an excellent opportunity to gain comprehensive experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonate care.
