Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. This role requires expertise in various high-risk scenarios and proficient skills in labor and delivery practices.

Unit Information

• Unit: Labor and Delivery/Perinatal
• Number of L&D Beds: 12 beds
• Number of Triage Beds: 10 beds
• Number of Antepartum Beds: 12 beds
• Births per Month: 200

Certifications Required

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Advanced Fetal Monitoring

Staffing and Support

• Nurse Ratios: AWOHNN guidelines followed
• Fetal Monitoring System: Fetal Link
• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Cerner
• Charge Nurse: Charge nurse available, takes patient assignment if necessary
• Nurse Aides/OB Technicians: 2 scheduled OB technicians per shift to assist in deliveries and scrubs in for C-sections, also helps stock supplies

Work Requirements

• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: One major and two minor holidays
• Scrub Color: Provided; must be sterile
• Ventilators: Not applicable
• OB/Neonatologist Coverage: 2 OB attending 24/7; 1 Neonatologist 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7 from NICU
• Pharmacy Coverage: Available 24/7
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM
• C-Section Experience: Must have experience circulating and scrubbing; both are preferred
• Floating Policy: L&D nurses may float to antepartum and postpartum units
• Orientation: 3 shifts on unit

Patient Population

The unit specializes in caring for patients typically 20 weeks and above who are considered high-risk and may present with conditions such as:

• High blood pressure
• Multiple gestations
• Diabetes
• No prenatal care
• Substance abuse

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery
• Experience with high-risk deliveries (inquiries encouraged regarding types of high-risk deliveries)
• Familiarity with administration of Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, etc.
• Travel experience is preferred
