Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. This position involves providing high-quality care to patients in a Level 3 high-risk facility. The ideal candidate will demonstrate independence, confidence, and the necessary skills for managing diverse cases in both labor and delivery and antepartum settings.

Unit Information

  • Labor and Delivery Beds: 17
  • Operating Room Suites for C-Sections: 2
  • Triage Beds: 4
  • Postpartum Beds: 16
  • Average Births: 250 monthly

Patient Care and Responsibilities

  • Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios: 2:1 for normal laboring mothers; 1:1 for high-risk labors; 4:1 for couplet care; and 2:1-4:1 for antepartum patients based on acuity.
  • Perform vaginal exams, internal monitor placements, and manage high-risk laboring and antepartum patients.
  • Circulate and recover patients from C-Sections.
  • Float to maternity and other units as assigned.
  • Administer and titrate drips including Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, Insulin, and Heparin.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • AFM (Advanced Fetal Monitoring)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Support Staff and Resources

  • Certified Surgical Technicians and Secretaries available as ancillary staff.
  • OB/Neonatologist and Anesthesia staff on-site 24/7.
  • Respiratory Therapy equipment available as needed; patients requiring artificial ventilation will be transferred to ICU.

Monitoring and Technology

  • No dedicated Tele/Monitor Techs; RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips effectively.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) System: Cerner

Scheduling and Orientation

  • Self-scheduling requests will be accepted, balanced by a scheduling committee of Nurse Staffing Managers.
  • Weekend requirements: Every other weekend
  • Holiday requirements: As needed
  • Orientation to the unit is 3 days for travelers.
