Job Description:

In addition to the general staff RN job description, the WCU staff RN will be responsible for the care of women from childbearing through geriatric years and infants up to 28 days of life, supervising and coordinating care with other disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately charges for patients and unit supplies.
  • Administers and controls narcotics and medications.
  • Administers IV fluids according to the PCS Policy and Procedure.
  • Communicates effectively with all members of the patient care team including patients, family, and physicians.
  • Compassionately provides care to patients acknowledging physiological, psychological, and developmental needs.
  • Documents patient assessment, plan, interventions, and patient’s response in the clinical record appropriately.
  • Implements the plan of care.
  • Maintains the unit and patient care area in a clean, neat, and safe environment.
  • Performs an appropriate and complete assessment for each patient assigned utilizing assessment techniques specific to the patient’s age, growth, and developmental status.
  • Provides and documents appropriate patient and family education.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients/individuals served.
  • Demonstrates correct and safe techniques in the use of office and patient care equipment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise and professional manner.
  • Develops an individual plan of care specific to each patient’s age, growth and developmental status.
  • Evaluates outcomes for patient care.
  • Maintains and meets expectations on time for all competencies, licenses, certifications, and education requirements as outlined by administration.
  • Provides effective leadership by directing and/or delegating tasks to other members of the health care team under the supervision of an RN.
