CICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse for a position within the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). This role requires a commitment to providing high-quality care to critically ill patients, along with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Unit Information

  • Number of Beds: 16
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 2:1 (occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity)
  • Unit Staffing: RNs only; no unit secretaries or patient care technicians
  • Type of Equipment: Ventilators, Telemetry, Baxter IV Pumps, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella, Hypothermia Machines
  • Documentation System: Cerner
  • Floating Policy: Travelers may float to all areas as needed
  • Scheduling Requirements: 36 hours per week, alternating weekends, 12-hour shifts

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Skills:
    • Titration of vesicant medications
    • Familiarity with vasoactive medications
    • Experience with sedation and paralytics
    • Proficient in ventilator management and telemetry interpretation
    • Understanding of hemodynamics and pulmonary artery catheter setup/interpretation
    • Knowledge of transvenous pacing and cardioversion
    • Familiarity with chest tube insertions and maintenance
  • Advanced Skills: Desirable skills include experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the CICU. Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring and managing patient conditions
  • Administering medications and treatments as per physician orders
  • Collaborating with healthcare team members to optimize patient care
  • Performing advanced clinical procedures such as central line insertion, EGD, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertion, pericardiocentesis, and thoracentesis

Dress Code

Scrub color is navy or a combination of navy and white. The dress code prohibits pullovers, hoodies, or green scrubs unless the uniform is soiled.
