ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced environment, working with a diverse patient population and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Number of Beds: 33 beds
  • Average Daily Census: 16 patients

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess patient conditions, performing initial assessments and ongoing evaluations.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Titrate intravenous drips for medications, including cardiac and insulin drips.
  • Utilize critical care equipment including ventilators, CPAP, BiPap, and high flow oxygen systems.
  • Document patient care activities, observations, and outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members, including nurse aides and respiratory therapists, to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations and initiate appropriate interventions.

Work Environment

Shifts are scheduled as 12-hour days. RNs will participate in self-scheduling, although block scheduling may be limited. RNs may float to the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or MedSurg unit as necessary, maintaining appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a critical care setting.
  • Certifications: Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification required.
  • Skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting telemetry strips; capable of troubleshooting respiratory equipment.

Patient Demographics

The ICU provides care for a variety of patient diagnoses, including:

  • Trauma and cardiac cases
  • Overdose and substance abuse
  • Sepsis and other renal issues
  • Post-stent and pacemaker placements
  • Stroke and vascular cases
  • Heart and respiratory failure

Scheduling & Orientation

  • Minimum commitment to work every other weekend.
  • Holidays: A minimum of 2 holidays required within the contract period.
  • Department-specific orientation consists of 1 shift.
  • Request for Time Off (RTO) should be submitted upfront (7 days or less per 13-week contract).

Additional Notes

All nursing staff must adhere to the fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails while providing patient care. Failure to comply may result in contract termination.
