ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) will provide high-quality patient care in a Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The role includes working with postoperative patients and managing critical care needs.

Position Details

• Shift: 12-hour Night Shifts
• Weeks Guaranteed: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Rotate with core staff for major holidays

Unit Information

• Unit: Surgical ICU
• Number of Beds: 10
• Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
• Common Diagnoses: Postoperative recoveries, primarily vascular procedures like femoropopliteal bypass, thoracic surgeries, and open abdominal surgeries

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care and perform assessments for critically ill patients.
• Monitor and interpret EKG strips.
• Assist with advanced procedures, including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Hospitalists and Intensivists.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in an ICU setting with a surgical patient background.
• Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.

Work Environment

• Electronic Medical Record System: Cerner
• Support Staff: Nurse aides available as safety attendants.
• Orientation: 1-2 days on the floor with a preceptor.
• Self-Scheduling: Available, with managers balancing schedules.
