ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

The ICU unit is a Level II Trauma Center featuring a general mixed ICU with a diverse patient population. The unit accommodates a total of 38 beds and includes care for:

• Medical and Surgical patients
• Cardiac care
• Neurosurgery patients
• Post-operative open-heart surgery patients
• Patients on ECMO (VV and VA), Balloon pump, Impella, and CRRT

The unit staffs approximately 125 personnel:

• Day Shift: 1 Charge Nurse with 16-18 staff
• Night Shift: 1 Charge Nurse with 16-18 staff

Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 2:1, depending on the acuity of the patients in care.

• Avea ventilators
• GE monitors
• Baxter IV pumps
• Maquet IABP
• Vigilance II monitors
• Impella devices
• ECMO – Maquet Cardiohelp and Medtronic Vital Flow
• NICOM

The electronic medical record (EMR) system utilized in this unit is Meditech.

Typical Hiring Profile

Required Skills:

• A minimum of 1 year of current ICU hospital experience
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications

Preferred Skills:

• Prior experience with Meditech EMR
• Experience in CVICU/CTICU, specifically in post-operative open-heart surgery care

Typical Procedures Performed

The ICU staff is skilled in a variety of bedside procedures, including:

• Bronchoscopy
• Gastrointestinal scopes
• Chest tube insertion
• Arterial and central line insertions
• Airway management
• Frequent titration of medications
