Emergency Room Nurse (RN)

Unit Information

Location: Salem, VA

Unit Type: Emergency Department

• Number of Beds: 27
• Number of Staff: 75 (50 RNs / 25 Medics)

Staffing by Shift:

• Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics, increasing by 4-5 RNs at 11 AM and by 1-2 RNs at 3 PM
• Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 5 RNs, 2-3 medics

Patient Ratios: 4-6 patients per RN

Type of Equipment: EMR – Meditech

Qualifications

Required Skill Set:

• Must have completed 2-3 travel assignments
• Must have 2-3 years of Emergency Room experience

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in high acuity emergency rooms with fast-paced environments
• Familiarity with patient ratios of 5:1

Typical Procedures

• Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI)
• Sepsis interventions
• Stroke protocol including tPA administration
• Central line placement
• Care of psychiatric patients
• Transfers to other facilities in compliance with EMTALA

Weekend Requirements

Candidates are expected to work four weekend shifts (either Friday or Saturday nights; or Saturday or Sunday days) within a four-week scheduling period.

Experience Required

2 years of nursing experience in an emergency setting.
