Emergency Room (ER) Nurse

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and self-sufficient Emergency Room (ER) Nurse to provide high-quality care in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will possess experience in managing a diverse patient population, including high-acuity cases, while adhering to established protocols and utilizing available resources effectively.

Facility Information

  • STEMI and Stroke receiving facility; critical cases are transferred for intervention.
  • 24 beds, including 4 behavioral health rooms and 2 critical care rooms.
  • 9-chair vertical flow area for Fast Track services.
  • Dedicated triage area with the inclusion of traveling staff for triage duties.
  • 4 separate behavioral health safe rooms available.
  • Security present 24/7 in-house.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to an average of 70-80 patients per day.
  • Maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1 during shifts.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including ED physicians and mid-level providers, for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Administer common drips, including levophed, epinephrine, fentanyl, and propofol.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations while demonstrating proficiency in EPIC documentation.
  • Engage in patient transport and perform phlebotomy as required.

Qualifications

  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS.
  • Experience in a fast-paced ED environment, especially in smaller facilities.
  • Ability to manage high acuity patients and function with limited resources.
  • Proficient in using EPIC electronic medical records.

Additional Information

  • Orientation includes two 8-hour hospital orientation shifts and two 12-hour clinical shifts with a preceptor.
  • Travelers may need to cover holidays based on contract agreements.
  • Floating between multiple locations within the region may be required, although it will be infrequent.
  • Scrub color: navy blue; plain or facility-branded sweatshirts are permitted.

This opportunity is not suitable for new ED nurses; it requires capability and confidence in handling a challenging patient population in a dynamic environment.
