Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)

Shift Information

Day Shift RN positions available with shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM or 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM.

Minimum Experience Required

At least 1 year of critical care or emergency room experience preferred.

Certifications/Requirements

• Nursing Certifications: CPI, ENPC, RNFA, TNCC, AWHONN, NIHSS, STABLE, ASLS, NBSTSA, APHON, CMA, CCMA, RMA, C-EFM
• Current California RN license
• Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required

Job Summary

The Emergency Room Registered Nurse provides both direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting, demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and responsibility with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include the safe and rapid triage of every patient entering the emergency care system, determining priorities based on physical and psychosocial needs, and ensuring optimal patient care.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care and evaluate outcomes, adjusting nursing care processes as needed.
• Perform thorough assessments on patients and reassess as needed, including for pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general patient populations.
• Effectively assess and manage pain and educate patients and families regarding pain management strategies.
• Ensure patient safety and minimize medical errors during care delivery.
• Monitor hemodynamic status and interpret results accurately.
• Demonstrate competence in cardiac monitoring, identifying dysrhythmias, and implementing appropriate treatments.
• Accurately assign triage categories to incoming patients.
• Maintain up-to-date and accurate nursing documentation of patient histories, assessments, treatments, and responses to care.
• Treat patients and families with dignity while addressing their psychosocial and cultural needs.
• Formulate and evaluate teaching plans based on identified learning needs, including family involvement.
• Stay current on medication knowledge and adhere to the five medication rights to prevent errors.
• Prepare, hang, monitor, and discontinue IV fluids as necessary.
• Follow departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients and their families.
• Ensure an adequate supply of medical equipment and materials.
• Assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department.
• Train and supervise new employees as necessary.
• Engage in performance improvement activities and demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

• Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
• One year of experience in critical care or emergency settings preferred.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Basic computer proficiency is required.
