Registered Nurse (RN) – Telemetry

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Telemetry team. The ideal candidate will have a strong cardiac telemetry background and be able to provide high-quality care to patients primarily in the ED who are awaiting bed placement. The RN will play a crucial role in monitoring patients and responding to their needs while supporting the medical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients in the telemetry unit, monitoring cardiac functions.
  • Administer and titrate cardiac drips per physician orders and parameters.
  • Work collaboratively with medical staff to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Perform essential nursing duties, including vitals, IV starts, and medication administration.
  • Assist with potential ED overflow responsibilities while not being the primary RN for ED assignments.

Shift Details

The position requires 12-hour shifts, with a commitment to working days, including 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule and rotation of holidays with permanent staff. The ability to self-schedule is available but may change as needed.

Unit Information

  • Unit Type: Telemetry
  • Number of Beds: 91 combined (60 ED Beds and 31 ED Beds)
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4
  • Common Diagnoses: ED holds awaiting placement, primarily medical/surgical/telemetry patients.

Qualifications

  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications are required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a telemetry setting preferred.
  • Strong skills in reading and interpreting cardiac rhythms are necessary.
  • Proficient in managing cardiac medication drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone.

Additional Notes

Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to starting, as well as a PASS/FAIL SIM lab assessment on the first day of orientation. This position may require floating to medial/surgical/telemetry or overflow units as needed. The team will consist of available PCTs to assist nursing staff.

The required attire for this position is navy scrubs.
