Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating nursing care for patients in the Emergency Department, catering to individuals ranging from pediatric to geriatric patients. This role encompasses direct patient care and collaborative efforts with other disciplines and ancillary services to ensure effective treatment and care delivery.
Essential Job Duties
- Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring age-appropriate assessments and safe, effective treatment for all ages.
- Perform triage in line with the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5-level triage process.
- Document nursing care and patient responses accurately and maintain legally acceptable medical records.
- Collaborate with providers, peers, and ancillary departments to deliver cost-effective and optimal patient care.
- Manage the care needs of multiple patients, prioritizing tasks to meet patient needs in a timely manner.
- Articulate patient needs concisely and advocate effectively for patients through communication with providers and relevant departments.
- Engage in personal professional development and complete all required education and training within designated time frames.
- Assess discharge needs for patients and families, providing appropriate education and resources.
- Monitor life support equipment and perform complex treatments, including medication administration and emergency protocols.
- Respond to crises with composure, directing team members effectively and utilizing delegation when appropriate.
- Adhere to legal consent, transfer protocols, and legislative requirements, preserving patient rights and ensuring care appropriateness.
- Maintain equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness before the conclusion of each shift.
- Participate in educational opportunities for pre-hospital emergency providers and learners.
- Demonstrate proficiency in computerized documentation of patient care.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Two-year nursing degree required; four-year degree preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a Wisconsin Registered Nursing license or active Compact Licensure.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC required; ATCN preferred.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
- Prior relevant work experience is desirable.
Shift Information
Full-time Weekender shifts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from 7 PM to 7 AM, including holiday coverage if necessary.
