Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department

Shift Information

Evenings – 12-hour shifts (10:45 AM – 11:15 PM and/or 2:45 PM – 3:15 AM)

Minimum Years of Experience

Certifications/Requirements

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS/BCLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Position Summary

This role involves providing professional nursing care in accordance with established standards through the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA). Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, developing and implementing appropriate care plans, and evaluating patient outcomes for a diverse patient population ranging from neonates to geriatrics. The position may involve scheduled on-call assignments to accommodate fluctuating patient volumes in the Emergency Department.

  • Use of tact, sensitivity, and sound judgment when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct triage for patients entering the emergency care system to determine priorities based on physical and psycho-social needs.
  • Manage hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room if necessary, documenting comprehensive nursing histories.
  • Develop and implement an evolving plan of care based on ongoing assessments, including discharge planning.
  • Ensure that supplies and equipment for patient care are readily available and functional.
  • Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety.
  • Document and respond to patient reactions and interventions to ensure continuity of competent care.
  • Educate patients and their families about treatment plans prior to implementation and provide accurate health status information and referrals.
  • Document understanding of discharge teaching provided to patients and families.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Perform related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
