Emergency Department Nurse

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Nurse to join our team. This position involves providing critical care in a fast-paced environment, predominantly in the evenings.

Position Details

• Unit: Emergency Department
• Unit Type: ER (Emergency Room)
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• On-Call Requirement: 2 on-call shifts within a 28-day schedule
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend (day and night shifts)
• Holiday Requirements: Must work some major holidays

Unit Information

• Trauma Level: Level 4
• Beds: 24 beds, including 4 critical rooms and 1 trauma room
• Average Patients Treated Per Day: 80-110
• Nurse-Patient Ratios: 1:4 for general ED, 1:2 or 1:1 for ICU cases
• Separate Triage Area: Yes, travelers allowed to triage if competent
• Security: In-house security available 24/7
• Experience Required: 2 years in Emergency Department

Clinical Responsibilities

• Administer medications and monitor patient responses
• Perform conscious sedation and manage critical patient care
• Utilize advanced critical thinking for AMI management
• Coordinate with medical and support staff for optimal patient care
• Essential skills include monitoring vitals and interpreting EKG strips

Required Certifications

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• BLS Certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Additional Information

• Unit orientation consists of two days of hospital-wide orientation followed by one 12-hour shift with a mentor in both emergency departments.
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
• Required to float between different emergency department locations as scheduled.
