Emergency Department Nurse

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Emergency Department Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. The Emergency Department offers comprehensive medical services to patients of all age groups, operating 24/7 with a highly trained staff dedicated to meeting the needs of the community. This position plays a critical role in providing high-quality emergency care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced emergency department environment.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients in the emergency setting.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
  • Float to other units within the facility as required.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records through the Meditech charting system.

Qualifications

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree required.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in Alabama or a compact state; temporary licenses are not accepted.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred, with consideration for candidates with 18 months of experience and demonstrated capability in a specialized field.
  • At least 1 year of experience in emergency nursing or a related specialty.
  • Cumulative certification in AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC is required.

Unit Information

The Emergency Department comprises 54 beds and is recognized as a Level III Trauma Center and a Level II Stroke Center. The department is equipped to handle over 60,000 patients annually and is staffed with a cohesive team of healthcare professionals.

Additional Information

  • This role requires the flexibility to work every other weekend and holidays as necessary.
  • Candidates must be open to floating to various departments as needed.
  • The nurse-to-patient ratios vary, ranging from 1:1 for critical/trauma patients to 1:3-4 for other patients.
  • Opportunity for both 36 or 48 hours per week schedules, with possible accommodation for block shifts including weekends.
  • Orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable training, and there is potential for contract adjustments.
