Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)
General Information
Join a dynamic healthcare team at a 176-bed acute care facility as an Emergency Department Registered Nurse. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience in either ICU or Emergency Department settings with an emphasis on ED level III or higher experience. Familiarity with Cerner or EPIC electronic medical record systems is essential.
Patient Care Responsibilities
- Provide care to patients in a combined adult and pediatric emergency department.
- Manage cases involving diabetes, hypertension, cardiac issues, and respiratory distress.
Patient Ratios
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- CPI or similar (online version acceptable)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred
Skills Required
- Chest tube management
- Arterial line care
- Central line management
- Trach care
- Intubation and extubation
- Conscious sedation administration
- IV therapy
- Nasogastric tube insertion and management
- Foley catheter insertion and management
- Splinting and related emergency department procedures
Unit Support
- CNA support is not provided.
- Receptionist/HUC support is available during the day only.
- Charge nurse is present but does not have patient assignments.
- Phlebotomy services are available most days.
- PICC team operates during day shift only.
- Hospitalist services are available.
- RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips.
Technology and Equipment
- EMR: Cerner
- IV Pumps: Plum 360
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Monitors: Spacelabs
Orientation
Orientation includes 24 hours in the classroom and 24 hours on the unit for new hires or those with over a year of experience.
Scheduling Information
- Weekend rotation: Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month in a block schedule.
- Holiday expectations include one major and one minor seasonal holiday.
- Time off requests can be approved up to 7 days, excluding blackout dates.
- Shift times vary: 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 11a-11p, 3p-3a.
- Every schedule cycle consists of two Mondays and two Fridays every six weeks.

- Scrub colors are flexible; however, T-shirts and hoodies are not permitted.
- Designated parking areas are available.
