Registered Nurse (RN)

General Information

This position involves working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, caring for an average of 150-180 patients daily. The Emergency Department (ED) is equipped with 33 beds, 8 trauma/resuscitation beds, 4 behavioral health rooms, and multiple pods for patient care. We accommodate patients ranging from neonates to geriatrics, managing both minor and critical cases including trauma, respiratory illness, and emergency procedures.

Patient Care Areas

• Heavy trauma population as a Level 2 trauma center
• Comprehensive stroke care available for symptoms up to 24 hours
• Support for critical pediatric patients
• Care for cardiac patients with access to a cardiac catheter lab

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience:
  • Registered Nurse: 2 years of Emergency Department experience preferred; consideration for candidates with 1.5 years ED experience plus 2 years in other nursing settings.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse: 2 years in any acute care setting; 1.5 years of ED experience will require management approval.
• Certifications:
  • Registered Nurse: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, PALS (CPI or MAB/MOAB preferred)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS (CPI or MAB/MOAB preferred)
• Required Education: Completion of an approved nursing education program.

Skills Required

• Experience with diverse patient types and conditions listed above.
• Capability to perform ESI assessments during triage.
• Strong critical thinking, communication skills, and the ability to prioritize care efficiently.

Support and Resources on the Unit

• ED Technicians available at a ratio of 1:10
• 24/7 physician coverage with hospitalist support for admitted patients
• Access to phlebotomy and radiology services
• Support from respiratory therapists available round-the-clock

Orientation and Training

New hires will complete an 8-hour facility orientation followed by 4 hours of ED-specific education, and will work a minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit.

Scheduling and Expectations

• Variable shifts are available, including days and nights without back-to-back shifts in a single week.
• Travelers may be required to work weekends to fill staffing needs.
• Holiday work may be requested based on staffing requirements.
• Requests for time off require prior management approval, particularly during peak times in August.
