Electrophysiology Registered Nurse (EP RN)

Schedule

3 x 12 hour shifts, primarily days with some late nights (evenings), holidays, and on-call responsibilities as needed based on unit requirements.

Main Function

The Electrophysiology RN functions primarily as a primary nurse or circulator during electrophysiology procedures. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, medication and safety review, clinical documentation, communication, and coordination of care before, during, and immediately following EP procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, IV access, procedural orders, and other pertinent clinical information prior to entering the procedure room.
  • Identify patient-specific risks or needs and coordinate with the Electrophysiologist, Anesthesia, APPs, holding/recovery staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain a patient-focused role during procedures, including ongoing assessment and medication administration within scope and order parameters.
  • Administer moderate sedation as applicable and complete procedural and safety documentation in Epic.
  • Communicate any changes in patient condition to the procedural team and work closely with Anesthesia during anesthetized procedures.
  • Provide backup pacing support during cardiac implant procedures when required.
  • Function as a circulator by obtaining and opening sterile supplies, pulling equipment, assisting with room setup and turnover, and ensuring necessary equipment is available throughout the procedure.
  • Assist at the sterile field with basic patient and equipment preparation and preparation of sterile tables where necessary.
  • Facilitate timely room starts and turnover, coordinating with the Charge Nurse, vendors, and other team members to ensure safe and efficient procedural care.

Qualifications

Must have the ability to commute with medical and other in-room staff to ensure all equipment and supplies are available. Proficiency with Epic for documentation is required, as is proficiency in administering moderate sedation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cardiac implant or structural heart scrub experience is preferred but not required.

Typical Procedures Performed

  • PFA and RF ablations (Cryo ablations) for A fib/Flutter, Atrial tachycardia, AVNRT, WPW, and other arrhythmia ablations.
  • Device implants: Traditional pacemakers (single, dual, CSP, BiV), ICDs, Subcutaneous ICDs, Leadless pacemakers, Loop recorders, and Left Atrial Appendage Closures (Watchmans and Amulets).
  • High-risk electrophysiology: laser and low risk procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Current NY nursing license.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.

Certifications

  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
