ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated ICU Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in dialysis to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide professional nursing care for acutely and critically ill patients while adhering to physician orders and established nursing practices.
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Registered Nurse Supervisor, the ICU Registered Nurse will be responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care through the nursing process: assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patients’ needs. The nurse will also offer leadership to ancillary staff, serve as a preceptor, and actively participate in departmental activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide direct observation and care to patients as outlined in the nursing care plan.
- Assist nursing staff in maintaining a safe and effective environment.
- Develop and assess individualized patient care plans while periodically evaluating their effectiveness.
- Document observations, interventions, and therapeutic measures in a timely and accurate manner.
- Stay informed about current best practices in critical care through continuous education and participation in professional development activities.
- Recognize and respond promptly to adverse signs and symptoms in emergency situations.
- Monitor and maintain specialized equipment and interpret electronic displays.
- Delegate and supervise tasks among licensed and unlicensed personnel according to licensure standards.
- Serve as charge nurse, providing guidance and direction to team members when assigned.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while on duty to maintain safety standards.
- Contribute to patient experience by delivering high-quality, compassionate care.
- Collaborate effectively with medical and nursing staff to promote teamwork within the ICU.
- Complete patient assessments at various stages of care in compliance with policies and regulations.
- Administer medications per physician orders and document accordingly.
- Take a proactive role in emergency situations, including participating in code blue and rapid response calls.
- Maintain accountability for a safe environment and ensure adherence to safety regulations.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the clinical area.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications
- Understanding of applicable laws and regulations in healthcare.
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and infection control protocols.
- Capability to utilize critical thinking skills independently and within team settings.
- Ability to relate to diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and software applications.
Physical Demands
The role requires regular standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling. The ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds is occasionally necessary.
Work Environment
Work is typically conducted in a hospital setting with potential exposure to safety hazards. Compliance with safety precautions is mandatory, and the role may require extended or irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Position Requirements
- Associate degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.
- Minimum of two years of ICU clinical experience required.
- Valid and unrestricted nursing license from the state of Arizona or compact state.
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- Specialty certification: CCRN; TNCC recommended.
