Lab Supervisor – Microbiology

Position Overview

The Lab Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily workflow of departmental processes within the microbiology laboratory. This full-time role includes managing staff, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining high standards of quality and compliance within the department.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor daily departmental operations and complete assigned shifts in supervised areas.
• Maintain proficiency in all positions under supervision.
• Manage day-to-day administrative tasks, including staff timecards and schedules.
• Oversee staff onboarding and ensure readiness for new hires.
• Monitor staff development, competency, and performance evaluations.
• Handle staffing issues and enforce departmental policies to resolve conflicts efficiently.
• Assist the Laboratory Director with system issue resolutions and departmental operations.

Shift & Scheduling

This position typically operates on a schedule of four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, but may adapt to five 8-hour shifts as needed. Weekend and holiday coverage may be required, along with the potential for staff floating within the lab.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
• At least 2 years of professional experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) in microbiology.
• MLS certification is required.
