Behavioral Health Clinician

Job Description

This position provides evidence-based, culturally relevant outpatient behavioral health treatment for individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, and/or mental disorders. Clinical services include individual, group, family, and marital therapy, as well as bio-psychosocial assessments, diagnostic evaluation, care coordination, and crisis intervention. The clinician is an active member of the multidisciplinary treatment team supporting individuals and families. Responsibilities include maintaining patient electronic health records with timely documentation of services and ensuring compliance with established policies and regulatory bodies. This position involves providing after-hours crisis intervention services on a shared rotating basis across various clinics in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement culturally relevant screening, assessment, diagnosing, treatment planning, and evidence-based individual, group, and family therapy to meet client needs.
  • Utilize Trauma-Informed Care in all interactions with patients, employees, and the community.
  • Integrate mental health and substance use disorder interventions based on individualized assessments and treatment planning.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and conduct treatment reviews tailored to individual needs.
  • Provide care coordination, advocacy, motivational interviewing, and skill development.
  • Maximize access to care by focusing on improving coping strategies, promoting self-care, enhancing self-understanding, and managing symptoms.
  • Collaborate and communicate with clinical and paraprofessional team members to achieve individualized treatment goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention services during normal clinic hours and shared after-hours crisis and emergency services across multiple clinic locations.
  • Maintain complete, timely, and accurate documentation of all services within the electronic health record, adhering to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Self-monitor and fulfill licensure requirements as mandated by the licensing board for clinicians.
  • Adhere to patient confidentiality and compliance standards in line with HIPAA regulations.
  • Coordinate care with local social agencies to ensure appropriate referrals and optimal individualized care.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, training, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Meet productivity expectations to support patient access to timely care.
  • Respond promptly to coding and audit requests respectfully and professionally.
  • Complete all required provider enrollment documentation and other assigned duties.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is preferred.
  • For unlicensed clinicians, clinical supervision will be provided to ensure proper service delivery.
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from hire.
  • Alaska State Chemical Dependency Counselor I or MAC certificate or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Completion of SEARHC Clinical Competency within 3 months and every 3 years thereafter.

Experience

  • Experience and expertise in behavioral health assessment and diagnosis.
  • Proficient in developing assessment, treatment plans, and referrals for patients across all age groups.
  • Knowledgeable in behavioral health assessment criteria, treatment plan development, and evidence-based practices.
  • Familiarity with federal and state mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of ethical and legal management practices and patient rights relevant to the field.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to assess patients for risk of suicide or self-harm and construct effective safety plans.
  • Strong advocacy skills to coordinate required services and resolve issues in crisis situations.
  • Capability to analyze, evaluate, and diagnose situations, adopting effective courses of action.
  • Proficient in documenting clear and concise reports based on direct patient observation and assessments in compliance with professional standards and protocols.
  • Adaptability to modify treatment activities in response to changing patient needs.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in behavioral health assessment and counseling practices.
