Behavioral Health Clinician

Job Description

This position provides evidence-based, culturally relevant outpatient behavioral health treatment for individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, and/or mental disorders. Clinical services include:

  • Individual, group, family, and marital therapy
  • Bio-psychosocial assessments
  • Diagnostic evaluation
  • Care coordination
  • Crisis intervention

The clinician will be an active, engaged member of a multidisciplinary treatment team supporting individuals and families. Responsibilities include maintaining the patient electronic health record with timely documentation of services in accordance with established policies and procedures, as well as following established clinical productivity standards. The position will require participation in after-hours crisis intervention services on a shared rotating basis across multiple locations within the region.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities

  • Implement culturally relevant screening, assessment, diagnosing, and treatment planning, utilizing evidence-based individual, group, and family therapy to meet client needs.
  • Utilize Trauma-Informed Care in all aspects of patient and community interactions.
  • Integrate mental health and substance use disorder interventions based on individualized assessments and treatment planning.
  • Develop and review individualized treatment plans tailored to clients’ needs.
  • Provide care coordination, advocacy, motivational interviewing, and bio-psychosocial education.
  • Maximize access to care by improving coping strategies and skills, promoting self-care, and enhancing self-understanding.
  • Communicate and collaborate with clinical and paraprofessional team members to achieve individualized treatment goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention services during clinic hours and participate in shared rotating after-hours services.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all services within the electronic health record.
  • Self-monitor and fulfill licensure requirements as mandated by the licensing board.
  • Adhere to patient confidentiality protocols and manage information sharing per HIPAA standards.
  • Coordinate care within the health system and with local social agencies for optimal individualized care.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and multidisciplinary team meetings professionally.
  • Consistently meet productivity expectations for patient care access.
  • Address coding and audit requests and corrections professionally and timely.
  • Complete required provider enrollment expectations and documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Counselor (LPC), or Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) preferred.
  • Valid State Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Alaska State Chemical Dependency Counselor I or MAC certificate preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Completion of SEARHC Clinical Competency assessment within 3 months and every 3 years thereafter.

Experience Required

  • Experience and expertise in behavioral health assessment and diagnoses.
  • Ability to develop assessments, treatment plans, and referrals for patients of all ages.

Knowledge Required

  • Understanding of behavioral health assessment and diagnostic evaluation criteria.
  • Familiarity with treatment plan development and patient-centered goals.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for individual, group, and family therapy addressing emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues.
  • Awareness of federal and state mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of ethical, legal, and documentation regulations specific to patient rights and HIPAA compliance.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to assess patients for risk of suicide or self-harm and create effective safety plans.
  • Advocacy for patients and coordination of services during crisis situations.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate and diagnose various situations effectively.
